Tiana Felmingham Consulting
I am drawn to the hard stuff. I look for patterns, understand how things are connected and investigate what’s really behind some of our most complex problems. This drives my love for big community change, collaboration and research.
I work with communities, organisations and government to:
Increase collaboration.
Help increase the community’s leadership role.
Work out how to measure social, community and wellbeing changes as they are happening.
Swing the focus from measuring action to measuring change, in real-time.
Incorporate systems thinking and embed longer-term outcomes.
This is achieved by working together on workshop design and facilitation, strategic planning, development of evaluation and measurement frameworks, writing successful grant applications, and conducting research and data analysis. I love adapting action, planning, reporting and leadership to reflect the complex world we live in by using complexity and systems thinking approaches. I also work with communities to plan, increase engagement and support their consultation.
I feel incredibly grateful to have worked closely with communities, groups and organisations (in Australia and beyond) for over two decades, to watch that moment of ‘oh, woah…’ unfold. When people in the room truly see what’s in front of them and realise that tackling it is possible. Together we identify what this means strategically, how changes can be measured in real time, what actions are needed and how to measure their impact.
I am a skilled facilitator, speaker, writer and mentor. Based in rural Victoria, creative technology, collaborating and facilitating online is second nature.
My experience is backed up by formal qualifications in adult education and learning, a Master of Public Health (that focussed on international health), and an undergraduate degree in Applied Science (Health Promotion). I am also currently completing my doctorate (PhD) with GLOBE at Deakin University, a World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre for Obesity Prevention, with a focus on defining and achieving success of systems thinking in community-led prevention efforts.
It’s time to bring complexity, systems thinking and community leadership together. I particularly love when the community is at the forefront of leading powerful change on problems that are repeatedly put into the too-hard basket, like mental wellbeing, alcohol and drug use, healthy eating, active living, or disaster recovery, amongst others.
My heart sits in rural and remote settings, in Australia and in the Pacific region. I also enjoy the challenges that come with urban centres, and state and national content. I am especially passionate about gender equity and prevention of violence against women. My family life has given me the privilege of being part of the autism and Asperger’s community. We were also directly impacted by the Black Summer bushfires of 2019/2020.
